Birdo the Parakeet

This week has been very trying.  We've been nursing our sick parakeet, Birdo.  He has gout of all things and had a flare up this week.  He's been on medicine twice a day for two years.  Every now and then he gets sick but so far we've been really lucky to have him for the last couple of years.

Birdo is 11 and we've had him since he was six weeks old.  He's pretty much the boss of the house.  When he wants something he chirps very nicely, when we ignore him, his chirps get a little more insistent and if we haven't done what he wants by THEN he starts yelling at the top of those tiny lungs.  You better be moving by that time.  LOL!

My husband likes to think HE'S the boss of the house, but Birdo lets him know otherwise.

Anyway, he was starting to look and feel better last night so we're breathing a little sigh of relief.

5 Blocks Done

My parents were up for a weekend visit.  Beautiful weekend and great to see them!

After dinner last night, I introduced my mom to Wii Bowling.  No one can resist Wii Bowling!  It was a lot of fun and after a couple of games, she really got the hang of it.  I did have to keep reminding her, though, that there is only fun in Wii Bowling.  She was looking very serious before her throws.  LOL!

After they left today, I cleaned my room, washed my car, took a nap AND I finished the first 5 blocks for Bonita's Double Irish Chain.  Whew!!!

New Quilt

Here is the material I will be using for the new quilt I'm making.  It's Feeling Groovy by Windham Fabrics.  I'm choosing the Double Irish Chain pattern so I can embroider the bride and groom's names and wedding date in the middle square.  Her colors are pool blue and yellow.  I think the bride's mom, Bonita, picked out some beautiful fabric.  The center squares will be white.

Coming Soon

Stay tuned!  I've started making my friend's daughter's quilt.  Whew!  That's a mouthful.

The fabric is cut and one block has been put together.  Love the fabric!

Pictures coming soon.  I promise!

Just a Short Note

Busy, busy Saturday.  Off to get my hair highlighted and then to a baby shower.  More later!  Have a great day!

More Burp Cloths

When I found the pattern/tutorial for the burp cloths I thought that I would never get a chance to make them.  Well, in the span of about 2 weeks, I've had to make 7 or 8!  First, my friend in Tallahassee had her baby, and then a friend at work asked me if would make a couple and then I received a baby shower invitation in the mail.  I've been busy.  Woo!

Today was a little cooler than normal.  About 45 with a wind chill of 38.  Now, considering my family and friends in the Northeast are getting pounded by snow, this isn't a bad temperature.  Just a little lower than normal for Jacksonville.  Just saying.

T-Shirt Quilts

The NFL is a big, small family.  If you work for a team long enough, you see people come and go and if you're lucky, keep in touch with them when they leave.  Several years ago I made a t-shirt quilt for a friend that worked with me.  Since then, she has moved on to bigger and better things with the Atlanta Falcons, now working in the Coach's office.  This past November she asked me if I would make a t-shirt quilt for the Exec. Assistant to the Head coach.  The coach's assistant has been with the Falcons for 25 years and my friend wanted something special to give her for her birthday.  I said yes and you can see the finished product.  My friend told me it took her a little while to realize they were her OWN t-shirts that her husband had smuggled out.  Hee Hee!  I love a surprise!

P.S.  This was quilted by a very talented quilter, Joanie Clinton, in Murphy, NC.  Thanks Joanie!

Work In The Yard Day

It's been kind of dreary and rainy lately (the above picture at the stadium is the only one I have showing the rain), so I spent the entire day raking leaves, cleaning the porch, and pulling weeds.  I'm happy to say everything is done, the yard looks nice and I'm probably not going to be able to move tomorrow!  Tylenol here I come!!

We left the leaves around this area since there's not much grass.  I think the critters are happy with the yard too.

Shout out to my niece and cousins in Charlottsville who are enjoying a record snow fall this year.  Sorry Beck, Susan and Duncan!

Have a great day!

Babies, Babies, Babies

Our cousin had twins last year (boy and girl) after many years of trying. I wanted to give her something a little different. What do you think?  I made the quilts above from a class I took at one of my favorite quilt shops using Elisa's Backporch 7" acrylic templates.  Easy, Easy!

Well, I'm off to the quilt shop to pick fabric for a quilt I'm making for a friend at work. More on that later.

Have a great day!

P.S.  The photo above was taken by my husband, who, thank goodness, is a professional photographer.  Thanks Hon!

And Away We Go!

Hi there and thanks for stopping in for a visit! This is my brand new blog about quilting, machine embroidery and general crafting. Just to give you a little background about me, I work full time but love, love, love to quilt. Because of time limitations, I usually choose quick, small projects that are easy to do. For example, the burp cloths in this picture are for a friend, Amy, that just had a baby girl. Yay Amy! Aren't they adorable? I got the idea from this blog. Barb has a wonderful blog and her tutorial on the burp cloths was awesome! Thank you!
